My sister has just found her husband is having an affair and he wants to leave her. We’ve got a copy of his pension details but I’m not sure what else we should find whilst we have the opportunity. They don’t have dependents. Any help asap would be great

How long have they been married?

MotherofTerriers · 01/02/2018 15:30

Make sure she has any documents she will need, like her passport and the original of their marriage certificate. Copies of his payslips or any other evidence of how much he earns. Evidence of any other assets he has or they own jointly - any shares, investments, savings accounts. Also any liabilities, joint overdraft, credit cards, mortgage
Bank account numbers, most recent bank statements

YetAnotherUser · 01/02/2018 15:30

Copies of pay slips, bank statements, mortgage statements, etc etc would be handy to have?

SurlyValentine · 01/02/2018 15:32

So sorry for your sister Flowers Wine

His payslips, statements for all bank accounts (joint and solely in his name), most recent mortgage statement, details of any other assets (shares, premium bonds, second property, etc.)

Findingthissohard · 01/02/2018 15:33

Thanks all.
They have been married 30+ years and he will be retiring this year. No mortgage or any debts

HuckfromScandal · 01/02/2018 16:07

Copies of share certificates
Photocopy passport
House documents
Loan documents
Notes on all assets

Sorry she is going through this

hellsbellsmelons · 01/02/2018 16:14

She will need marriage cert for a divorce.
Others have also mentioned everything else.
30 years.
That's sad and I'm so sorry for your poor DSis.
Do they have any kids?
Do they have wills at all?
These will need to be sorted if they do.
Does she work and earn enough to manage on her own?
I would also look at getting estate agents round to value the property or properties if they have more than one.
Look at local solicitors and visit a few if possible if they offer a free half hour. Less choice for him!
