A less interesting thread to read then others but I left the UK to live down under 7 years ago and still have no real friends. I know lots of people and have somewhat of a social life but I don't have even one close girlfriend and I'm feeling so down about it! I do have long term partner so not totally alone of course but desperately missing having a few true good girlfriends in my life, how on earth to you find best friends 'later on in life?' (I'm 30 - so I mean post school, Uni, house mates stage of life etc.). Anyone else in this situation?!

Not in your situation as still live near where I grew up for half the year but definitely have noticed that its harder to meet new friends and when the older ones drop out of sight (marriage, kids) so it can be difficult! Work- if you do- or any interests like book clubs or sport/ adult ed classes are the main places that come to mind.

I've been in your shoes. I ended up so homesick and almost splitting with my partner. It took a long time (I'm talking years) to settle but I ended up suffering with depression which didn't help. I found an amazing friend through work. Are you able to work part time? xa

I lived in Australia for a couple of years and found myself in a similar situation. I did some volunteer work for TAFE. It was very interesting, different assignments, and all quite local to where I lived or transport was provided. We got full training free too.
