Has anyone been to a speed dating event? there is one coming up this weekend and organiser's website looks appealing, any tips?

I have in the past. I absolutely would recommend it, particularly if it's aimed for a certain community that fits you and who you are looking for (particular religious background, professional interests, hobbies/activities, etc.). If nothing else, it's good practice to get out and talk to people. I did a couple of them when I was younger (and still single). One was for people specifically of my religious background (I'm Jewish) and I met more people there that I felt I connected with, though don't think I ever really went on any further dates with anyone. The guys I liked didn't really like me and the ones that did like me definitely weren't compatible with me at all. I did another more general one, and that seemed to attract a lot more weirdos. It could totally have just been a fluke though. I think the benefit over something like internet dating is you can quickly get a feel for someone's vibe and you'll know right away if they aren't right for me (then fortunately, you can move on). You do need to be comfortable engaging in a lot of small talk though.
