I've never been on dating sites but I've read up a lot of threads where people meet on sites like tinder...
Isn't it scary meeting someone online as you don't really know what they are going to be like in person or what if they do something scary in person for the first time?where would you meet up

You meet somewhere public, preferably for a coffee so you can get away quickly if you don't get on. Chat a bit online and get to know a bit about them. Maybe do a phone chat.

Smeaton, I wish we all knew EXACTLY what type if person we want to meet - if it was that simple, online dating would've had a much higer success rate! Some people seem to know and write long lists of boxes to tick - again, good luck to them!
OP yes it's a bit risky, but with social media it'a easier now to find out a bit about the person if you meet and like them, and get to know their social media details. But yeah no guarantee that they ar not very boring or aggressive etc until you meet. If you met someone in a bar, you still take a risk.

Never done online dating but, if I was single, I’d give it a go I think,

Tinder, has a bad rep but, my male colleagues at work who are on it, have lots of success on it.

Make sure someone knows where you're going. Ask them to make a checking in call half an hour in so you can make an excuse to leave if needed. Meet in a public place where you feel safe and that you know well and is easy for you to get home from safely. Meet during the day initially. Most people on the internet are normal people like yourself and if you take some basic precautions you'll be absolutely fine. Listen to your intuition, if something feels off, trust your gut. Remember you don't owe anyone your time or attention. You don't owe anyone a response. I'm a people pleaser so online dating would be disastrous for me!
