Why did he kiss me?

I have been friends with this guy for about 4 months. He is a friend of one of the guys in our friendship group. We usually hang meet up in a group of around a 20 friends. We had a great time, as we usually do. At the end of the night he kindly walked my back to my car, and out of nowhere he kisses me, which lasted for about 15 minutes (I kissed him back). I felt like I was back in school haha. We then said our goodbyes.

The part I am confused about is, he is moving back to America for about a year, after which he expects to come back. I have been aware of this for abut a month.

The day after 'the kiss' he messaged me saying he wasn't ready to start anything due to his current moving situation.

I am just confused as to why he would kiss me, if we both know he will be gone by January?

Because he felt like it at the time and it was clear his advances were welcome ?

It's a snog, not a proposal of marriage

MyBrilliantDisguise · 19/10/2017 18:09

The day after 'the kiss' he messaged me saying he wasn't ready to start anything due to his current moving situation.

The only response to that should be a text saying, "That's a relief!"

Where you standing under a tree with mistletoe bundles? There is a lot this year and you always have Christmas between now and then. Plenty of time.

Flyinggeese · 20/10/2017 00:18

I suppose you could always ask the question, why did you kiss him in these circumstances too? Just an 'in the moment' thing by the sound of it.

Did you reply to his message at all?

SandyY2K · 20/10/2017 00:18

He got caught up in the moment.

huphep · 20/10/2017 00:26

Because kissing is awesome.

Telstar99 · 20/10/2017 01:03

Your kiss lasted for 15 minutes??? Confused

He is going to America soon. Probably after a goodbye shag.

QueenOfUniverse · 20/10/2017 06:40

Maybe he likes you but knows that he can’t handle the distance... so gave you some love before he leaves
Or
It could be plain attraction between friends and his way of showing that he is fond of you

category12 · 20/10/2017 07:14

Why not? Both single, both wanted to. It was a kiss.

schoolgaterebel · 20/10/2017 07:29

He likes you and was caught up in the moment. Doesn’t mean the time is right to start a relationship (that is what the text said)

Hope you enjoyed the moment, stay in touch and carry on living your life. Maybe one day if the circumstances are different, but maybe not, it was just one kiss.

TheNaze73 · 20/10/2017 08:56

Don’t overthink this, it was just a kiss

Oleanderrules · 20/10/2017 10:39

But a kiss can be more than just a kiss

Do you like him ? Do you want it be more than just friends

I had just a kiss with a work colleague and the next day said it should go no further
That was 15 years ago and we are now married with kids!

Maybe meet him for a coffee and talk it through but only if you are interested in him

abbsisspartacus · 20/10/2017 11:43

Step back from him and he will most likely chase

NotARegularMum · 20/10/2017 12:44

Thanks very much for your responses. All really helpful. :)

That's a good idea, but it's just a bit awkward now...

Is your name Sandy?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/10/2017 12:48

15 minutes?

Some people have had marriages shorter than that.

NotARegularMum · 20/10/2017 12:49

@splendidisolation nope, not 'Sandy'...

Desmondo2016 · 20/10/2017 12:56

Ha ha this has reminded me of a guy I snogged once who later texted me to say 'i had a nice evening but I don't have time for anyone else's service needs and expectations right now '. Cheeky fucker!!! I put him firmly in his place!

NotARegularMum · 20/10/2017 13:42

@Yetanothernamechange1234

Lets play horse. I'll be the front end and you can just be yourself.
