Is being 'un-friended' the ultimate insult?

Just as title suggests, what do you think?

I want to unfriend a relative but haven't because I know the sh*t will hit the fan when she notices. I've been un-friended before and not been too bothered but I know of others who have found it very insulting.

Just wondered what everyone thought?

I tend to unfollow rather than unfriend in those circumstances. You don't have to see them but you also don't have to deal with the fallout if you can't be bothered!

Why do you want to unfriend? ?..can you not just unfollow ?

Wellysocksbox · 03/10/2017 21:00

My brother unfriended me. I didn't notice for a few months but then he unfriended me in real life as well. Hmm

Redglitter · 03/10/2017 21:02

I can't believe people actually get worked up about it. I regularly remove people force range of reasons. I've been removed from people's FB too. Can't say it bothers me. I certainly don't see it as an insult let alone the ultimate.

Un following is good to a point but it still means she can see everything you're doing

SandyY2K · 03/10/2017 21:09

Best to unfollow IMO.

LaughingElliot · 03/10/2017 21:11

I unfollow and you can also alter your posting setting so she can’t see them.

MsPassepartout · 03/10/2017 21:24

Depends who's doing the unfriending TBH. There's some FB friends where I'd be hurt / insulted if they unfriended me, and other FB friends where i wouldn't care at all.

Is unfollowing an option?

You are able to limit her interaction with your Facebook account by making her a restricted person.
Not quite blocked, but she can't see your day-to-day posts. Takes a bit of fiddling around with the settings but can be worth it.
Some people get quite weirdly upset about being unfriended, I find restricting them is a happy medium.

OrangeJulius · 03/10/2017 23:59

I agree with a combo of restricting and unfollowing MIL if you feel you can't unfriend at this time.

She likes 24/7 access, she'll blow up if I unfriend..... I've unfollowed and blocked from WhatsApp, texting and messenger
