Someone shake me!

Ok it's one of my kids birthdays today. Its not my 'day' to have them, although I have been round to say Happy Birthday and to give presents. Just feeling abit fed up as they head off for a birthday meal without me.
I don't miss my ex, but do miss the family unit thing.
Anyone else struggle with this at times?

I understand completely. You don't need a shake. What you're feeling is completely natural.

Can you find a distraction? Could you see a friend?

If you feel comfortable going round there could you not celebrate birthdays together?

We come together on birthdays, it's nice for the kids, but we have been separated/amicable for a long time.

Totally understandable. There are some events that magnify the family shaped hole, and children's birthdays are definitely one of them. It does gradually get easier.
