I dream about him

I was with my ex partner for eight years. No kids and not married. We split up 15 years ago. Looking back I'm glad we did as we are quite different people. I'm married, have three dc (relatively happy - not completely as I have two children with severe disabilities and the last few years have been very hard).

So...every now and again I dream about my ex. There's a slightly romantic undertone to my dreams. IRL I barely give him much thought aside from the very odd occasion of wondering what he's up to. We have no friends in common, our families don't keep in touch so why the hell do I keep dreaming about him?!

Eight years is a long time to share your life with someone it's only natural to dream about him sometimes.

My cousin is a neuroscientist and when I split with my ex he was a real comfort because he explained that our brain actually forms physical pathways that make associations between ourselves and our loved ones. (At least that's the way I remember him explaining it!)

Eight years is a long time to be with someone, so the pathways won't disappear overnight. It's probably your brain changing and cooking up some weird experiences for you as the pathways break down, but nothing that I would really worry about!
