What sort of ties do you have? Children? Job? Parents?

What would you love to do? If you were to imagine a life for yourself, what would it look like?

cupcakesmakeyouhappy · 26/09/2017 19:51

Hi MyBrilliantDisguise. I have children 12 and 10. In the middle of a (hopeful) career change.
I'm looking for absolutely any ideas to start a new....wondering what all you lovely ladies do in your spare time. Things that make you happy :)

When my children were a bit older than yours (old enough to leave in the evening for a few hours) I did an MA in Creative Writing. It changed my life!

cupcakesmakeyouhappy · 26/09/2017 20:15

Well done you :) that's an inspirational and statement. Fancy sharing, in what way?

Due to start university psychology degree course.

Planning holidays or short breaks/day trips to places youv'e always fancied.

Cinema on my own (if my film of choice isn't everone's cup of tea) and treating myself to popcorn and Ben & Jerry's - no sharing!

Life drawing classes (or anything else creative)

Salsa dancing for beginners

Ballet and opera shows (something ex refused to watch)

But my favourite is curling up on the sofa with a good book and phone switched off.

cupcakesmakeyouhappy · 26/09/2017 20:32

Ruddygreattiger2016 all sound fab! I wish I could be so brave and go to the cinema alone. I miss out on all the new releases.
Good luck in your degree :)

Life changing in that it allowed me to leave my job and write full time.

Once your children are at secondary school everything changes, I found. You suddenly have a lot more time for yourself.

cupcakesmakeyouhappy · 26/09/2017 20:56

MyBrilliantDisguise that's amazing! What an achievement :)

Do high energy gym classes with loud music it puts you on a high!! Plus keeps you fit.

Runningyogabooze · 26/09/2017 21:12

Yoga! I took it up at 43 having thought it was poncey and airy fairy bollocks and now I wish I'd done it sooner.

orangewasp · 26/09/2017 21:13

I wish I could be so brave and go to the cinema alone - just do it OP, lots of people do.

ALaughAMinute · 26/09/2017 21:14

I would highly recommend Meetup! Put Meetup and your geographical area into Google and have a look

PurpleCrowbar · 26/09/2017 21:15

Bugger off abroad & enjoy a nice tax free teaching salary? It's working for me Grin.

Ruddygreattiger2016 · 26/09/2017 21:19

Cinema on your own is great, stuff your face in the dark and never miss a new release!!CakeGrin

MyBrilliantDisguise · 26/09/2017 21:38

Where are you, PurpleCrowbar?

haribomilkshake · 26/09/2017 21:53

I joined the WI! A new group started in my area the year I turned 40, and it has been great. I had mum-friends in the area (who are lovely) but through WI I now have friends of different ages and marital status with a wide range of interests. There are offshoot groups for art, craft, reading, cinema etc. Also done some various craft workshops with new people. Like girl guides for grown ups
And if you want to meet men, there's tinder Wink

Somewhere hot & sandy with famous big triangular pointy things, MyBrilliantDisguise! (avoiding place names as nightmare stalky xh follows me round t'internet occasionally).

Dc & I love it. Best thing I ever did.
