Could this be innocent spam?

My DH was showing me something on his laptop and he got an email notification from eharmony marketing. He didn't seem bothered but closed it down and carried on with what we were looking at. So I wondered do you need to be a signed-up member to get those emails or do they send spam type emails to non-members? Does anyone know?

That has happens with us before and I certainly haven't had any urges to go on match dot com, so I going to vote spam on this one....

ScruffyLookingNerfHerder · 25/09/2017 16:25

If it's from a marketing address it's generally unsolicited

Namechanged124 · 25/09/2017 16:37

Thanks so much for your replies. I had thought that might be the case but I thought I'd ask just to get it out of my mind!

I have received dozens of eharmony emails and I've never even visited the website.

category12 · 25/09/2017 16:53

That's weird, I never get emails from sites I haven't visited. Even my spam folder has stuff from sites I've signed up for.

Panicattheschoolgate · 25/09/2017 16:55

Depends you could sign up to a sign which is affiliated with e harmony and then not untick emails from 3rd parties.

Fantasticmissfoxy · 25/09/2017 17:03

Yeah I've had loads of these - along with invitations to select a charming Russian bride and enlarge my (non existent) penis.

mindutopia · 25/09/2017 18:05

I still get marketing emails from online dating sites I was a member of before I met my husband. That would have been at least a decade ago now. We've been together 9 years and I stopped using those accounts probably a year before we met. I've (obviously) long since deleted my account, have unsubscribed from emails, reported them as spam, etc. I still get them. It's quite possible it's totally unsolicited or he did have a real account long in the past, but I wouldn't on the surface be too worried unless you have reason to believe there is more to it than that (and it doesn't sound like you do).

PeterBlue · 25/09/2017 18:12

I must get a dozen of these a week. Never done OLD, never intend to. It's spam from somebody who's got a shed load of email addresses from some mailing list they've hacked and sends them out to everyone.

Justdontknow4321 · 25/09/2017 18:21

Iv had loads of emails from eharmony when iv never even been on there website!

ZaphodBeeblerox · 25/09/2017 18:23

I get so many OLD marketing emails, based on accounts I had half a decade ago before meeting DP. Also get tonnes and tonnes of penis-lengthening spam despite never having had a penis I wanted lengthened.

Unless there's other things bugging you I wouldn't let this bother me at all.

SandyY2K · 25/09/2017 18:28

I get them and I've never signed up to the site.

CherriesInTheSnow · 25/09/2017 18:32

I googled "L'oreal True Match foundation" once and started getting emails from eHarmony etc! I have also received Viagra emails after looking at vitamins supplements Confused

feckoffpeppapig · 25/09/2017 18:41

Spam....
Ive never signed up for viagra either sites but seem to get plenty of those too.

If anyone saw my spam/junk box they'd presume i was into to fake amazon orders, eharmony,PPI.Online pharmacy....and the african man stating he's just put $10000000000000 into my account hahahaha

SandyDenny · 25/09/2017 18:47

I get OLD spam and I've never been on any dating website

Justmuddlingalong · 25/09/2017 18:50

I've received emails for special offers for viagra...despite not having a penis.

TheNaze73 · 25/09/2017 18:56

I echo many other posters. Never done OLD but, get shitloads of spam from dating sites

Bluntness100 · 25/09/2017 19:01

Yup, spam, if you don’t click the box saying don’t share on many sites they sell your email address. I get shit like offers on viagra, I can assure you I’ve no interest in it never mind looked at a site offering it.

Spam. And if he was going to cheat, he’d use a hook up site. Not some romantic match making one.

Namechanged124 · 25/09/2017 19:22

Thanks again everyone. I suppose what threw me was that it wasn't a dodgy type of email for viagra or foreign brides, it seemed like it could be legitimate but the fact loads of you seem to get that type of spam too, there's obviously nothing to see here. As you were Smile
