Practicalities when divorcing

My husband and I will be divorcing shortly. I think it has been a long time coming and I have posted a couple of times under different names.

Long story short we gave it a go but it's not working. I need to know what to do now though. What practical steps do I need to take, what documents do I need and lots of other things I probably haven't considered.

I could use a little support and advice.

Um, I think a solicitor would be a lot more helpful for your specific situation than randoms online. Sorry.

No one at all? I don't want legal advise, I just need to know what I can do right now, by myself!

Finances are key- do you have access to your own money or is it all in a joint account?
Get copies of all important paperwork- mortgage, bank statements etc
Do you know about his pension? Do you know how you're going to divide assets?
Do you have kids? Do you have an agreement on how access is going to work?
Are you going to sell the family home and split the proceeds or are you going to stay in it and buy him out?
Lots and lots of questions that only you can answer- paperwork is crucial get copies of everything you can

This might be helpful.

Housing and access/'custody' would be the big things I suppose.
