Anyone else's parents or in-laws never met your kids because of the distance you live from each other?

Ds is now 20m old and has never met any of his cousins or his grandad. We live in Scotland and the rellies live in Yorkshire or London. Not exactly the other side of the world, but too far for us cash-stripped bods to make a special trip.

I'm not too bothered tbh, but I think it must seem weird to some - it's not like we have fallen out, just never get together.

(Mind you I have never met one of my nephews who is now about 6 and that's because my SIL won't speak to us - but that's different!)

Well I've never met my nephew because he lives in NZ - but my parents have been out several times to see him. Why has grandad not come up to visit you?

My 20mo DD has never met her grandad (my dad) as there's always been some excuse why he couldn't get on a plane and come and see her. He's in the UK and we're in Italy, but still, the flights are dirt cheap if you book in advance and if my Mum can make it over 4 times a year, then he could at least have made an effort once.

We've also been back to the UK a few times since DD was born but they've been mostly for short stays and with my dad living on the other side of the country from the rest of my relatives there's not been much time or energy for getting on trains, plus to be honest if he can't be bothered to take a 2 hour plane trip to come and see us, I don't really feel like dragging a small child on a 4 hour train ride (after a plane ride) for 1 day. Not to mention the fact that British trains are hugely overpriced, but that's another thread.

He can't afford to KTeePee (and we can't afford to pay for him to come up - not that he would accept help anyway).

My family lives all over the planet so they probably won't meet LO for a while after s/he arrives - but since they give me stress I'm not as sorry for that as perhaps I should be! (does this make me a terrible person?!)

parents in law live in oz, so have never seen DS (aged 3). even when we were in oz we din't meet up, they're weird and crazy, so the lack of contact is just the way i like it

DS1 was nearly 6 (one month short) and DS2 was 3 1/2yrs old before my FIL met them, infact DH's family is MASSIVE and only his 2 older sisters had ever met them before last August when we managed a trip out to see them all.
