To feel disappointed with my family.....

Does anyone else sometimes feel like a complete alien in the presence of their family? I take my DH and DD to visit my family sometimes and feel sometimes embarrassed that I am even related to them.

My mum tries desperately to keep the family together organising things and activities for us all to do and I always feel a bit anxious about it all as if I spend my time mediating. Its like we are a different breed or species. My brother seems to have no boundaries as to what comes out of his mouth and is extremely opinionated. He has phoned me before and said he thinks my DH is a snob, that we make his girlfriend feel stupid and lower class. His girlfriend seems very nice when she is in our company but always seems to look for excuses not to come to events, and seems to only want to spend time with her family, who only live about 12 doors away from where they live, and who she sees all the time.

I honestly think if my mum wasn't here, I would become so distant from my brother. It makes me quite sad. I see other families and they are close and enjoy spending time with each other, and we are just not like that. I would dearly love to have that fairytale type family, but couldn't have that with the one that I have got Confused
