Early relationship question

When do you start sharing birthdays with a partner?

I've been dating someone for 6 months now. I really like him, perhaps even love!

It's my birthday next week. And my dad who's been down in the dumps recently wants to take me out for a slap up good dinner.

But boyfriend is hinting that we spend my birthday together.

I'm not ready to introduce boyfriend to my parents yet as much as I like him I am still a bit cautious having been burned in the past.

But I don't want him to feel like I'm rejecting him.

Wwyd?

Could you do lunch/day with your dad and evening meal with your BF?

I would tell your partner how much you appreciate him wanting to celebrate your birthday, but because your dad is having some struggles and wants to take you to dinner, you want to spend the evening with your dad. Then ask if you could have a rain check, and then plan something special for the two of you. If he's a man worth having, he will be happy to oblige.

For me, it was a couple of years. I liked spending daytime with them but, the evening with my friends.

Quite similar to Aqua's suggestion

Tell him you feel like the queen as you're getting to celebrate 2 birthdays this year with the 2 most important men in your life.

This makes it obvious you'll be celebrating with each separately on different days. Then ask him what day is best for him next week. Job done.
