Rape or Sexual Assault? TRIGGER WARNING

Bruised987 · 14/07/2017 23:29

If I was penetrated by fingers (without consent) is this 'only' sexual assault because I feel like I've been raped? It was terrible & I am going to press charges.

Flowers OP.

The police will be able to advise you for sure, but I think legally it counts as sexual assault, but I would imagine at the serious end of the range of sexual assault. But that's in no way a reflection on how serious it is for you psychologically and emotionally. Of course it was terrible, and don't let anyone try to minimise how you're feeling around it.

Well done for having the bravery to report. I'm so sorry you've been through this.

Report it and press charges xxx

UnicornRainbowPoo · 14/07/2017 23:45

Hope you are okay. Definitely report it, it is assault by penetration and CPS guidelines say it should be treated in the same way as rape would be.

NotAnotherNoughtiesTune · 15/07/2017 01:03

Legally it is sexual assault as rape is only defined as such by penetrating with a penis.

I'm so sorry. FlowersAngry

Sexual offences specialist pc here. It's assault by penetration. A stand alone offence recognising the severity of the offence. You poor thing. Get the bastard reported. Make sure you accept the support services you will be offered.

Neutrogena · 15/07/2017 09:19

What were the circumstances OP?

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 15/07/2017 09:37

OP, you don't need to tell us the circumstances (unless of course you think talking them through would help you). The only thing that matters is that we believe this happened to you, and we know that you need support because it was bloody awful.
