Single mums get a 'night off' - no-one to go out with!

I'd like to get a little feedback here and see if anyone has a similar issue. I've been separated from my husband for 2 years and he lives quite far away so my children go to him once a month (approx.). Although I have great friends and a busy life, I often find that when I'm free on my one weekend a month, they are all busy with their own families, husbands, friends etc. I don't want to trawl through internet dating and all that entails nor do I want to sit in on a Saturday night (which I do all the other weekends with my kids) . I wondered if there are any networks which connect mums interested in a night out with like-minded women, or, if there was - would anyone be interested in that? I'm imaging a grown-up version of the 'Mush' app where you check what's going on near you on a Saturday night, if you're free, and join in. Any thoughts?

Glad to see I'm not alone! And the added problem is that I don't always know what dates I'm free until a few weeks before, or less, so it's hard to plan. if a lot of women were in the same boat it would be good to be able to link up with locals and see who's free on the same night (maybe via a Facebook page, for example). I'm in Glasgow, but I'm guessing that there are plenty of others in my city and around the UK who are in the same boat.

I think this is a great idea! My little one starts going to her dads overnight next month and I'm thinking what I can do to keep busy. My friends all have their own families, so nights out are planned out with military precision and way in advance. Something like this would be ideal!

I'm far too old to go out clubbing but I would love a night out on the town!

It's certainly a better alternative to hooking up with some random man off a dating site just to go out for a nice meal and a conversation.

Yes, I looked at meet up before but it didn't quite fit the bill but that could just be in my area. It works more on organised events. I was thinking of something a bit less rigid.

This is a great idea! I'm a single parent as well and so not interested in having to deal with awkward dates just to get a night out. I'm in Glasgow too

I was going to suggest meetup too. If there isn't anything going on in your area then add it yourself.

I joined a group, attended a few meets and am now adding my own events for times I want to go out.

Plus have met single mums on Mush to go out and have a drink with (when calendars coincide).

Yes, Mush looks great but my kids are passed the playground age so I'm kind of out of that loop. Kids are old enough now that I feel I can get a bit of my life back. I don't think I would have had the energy when they were small.

I checked out Citysocializer but seemed like it was a younger crowd and with quite a lot of older, creepy mem - the kind you want to avoid on dating sites. Has anyone tried it? Any good?
