New partner of four months , having a text conversation, I'm talking him through a difficult time he's been having, being sympathetic etc, he says he needs a hug
I say me too, home life been a bit crap
He responds with "won't be long till I see you"
I was a bit wtf, doesn't even ask what's wrong or if I'm ok, am I right to be a bit pissed off or am I being childish?

It depends. Does he usually take an interest in the whole or is he very self absorbed?

I guess he's trying to say don't worry, it'll be ok when he sees you and you can have a nice time/chat about it? And he can give you the hug you said you needed?

It might be that he's not very good at typing out genuine, heartfelt advice but is in person so meant in a "I'll be there to help soon" way not a "when I'm with you, why would you care about anything else? Way

Maybe he thinks over the phone isn't appropriate to be asking and will discuss and hug when you get together. .

I'm aware that I can over react and be a bit needy which is why I'm asking, I just felt if it was me I'd be concerned and ask what's wrong

Many people assume that if someone wants to talk then they will. Don't be one of those needy passive aggressive types that see people who don't ask as all being self centred or less caring...although some undoubtedly might might be.

The real test in that front is whether when you talk about yourself he shuts you down.

Don't worry op, this is the sort of thing I overthink where text messages are concerned. It's just so easy to see the other side when it's not me worrying, if you see what I mean?

Is that really necessary? The op hasn't said she's kicked off an argument with him, she knows she's probably over thinking and is asking for a different perspective.

Not, yes I am prepared to admit I am usually hard work 😀 which is why I asked for opinions as I'm self aware enough to recognise it, it's a work in progress!

I think I would have replied in a similar manner as he has.

Doesn't it mean:

I need a hug

(ok I'll give you one) - won't be long til I see you? (to give you that hug)
