How do I approach out-of-my-league guy in the gym?

I'm 30 and have been in two LTRs since I was 16 and have never needed to approach a guy I like EVER. I've spotted a gorgeous man in the gym and must have seen him every weekend for like the last 6 months if not more. We've made brief eye contact a couple of times, and Sunday he was in the sauna the same time as me and my mum commented later that he was checking me out Shock

However that is the issue, mum is my gym buddy so what guy is going to want to talk to me at all when I have mum by my side?

Do I ask her to let me go in the pool alone this weekend and hopefully we'll clash again and I can try and strike up a conversation? What on earth do I say? Or do I do nothing and wait for him to make the first move or is that outdated now?
He's probably engaged or gay but I NEED to know. I'm worried he is out of my league, I'm not ugly but I don't feel like his type.
I'm quite shy til people get to know me and I'll prob be a tongue-tied mess.

I think the first option is great as he might feel a bit scared while your mum is there, but do approach him!

Good luck GrinWink

I agree that having your mother with you isn't an appealing look, best not to try chatting him up with her looking on. Just say hello and smile when you see him to start. If he's interested he'll take it from there.
