Valentines! What do you buy for a man?

So it's my first Valentine's Day with my bf but our 1 year anniversary is around the same time! What I want to know is what others buy for valentines? Also do I then buy a separate gift for the anniversary?

Or instead of spending lots of money on stuff (he's not very materialistic, I am more than him) has anyone got any idea for something lovely and thoughtful? For xmas I made him a card from moonpig which he loved but I can't do that again can I?

I don't do anything more than a card, it's a load of commercialized rubbish. I always say "don't get me anything, and this is not a passive aggressive trick statement". In the past I've made a really nice dinner at home, as going out on the day just results in over priced conveyer belt meals.

Unless you can afford to take him to a Michelin star restaurant. If you can, do that

Nothing. Over commercialised and crap. Don't set the precedent and celebrate your anniversary nstead.

Card only for St Valentines (though once I got him a book as there was a particularly apposite new release).

I didn't do anything about anniversaries until we had wedding ones. And it would often be a book for those too.

No, must admit, we haven't celebrated the anniversary of getting together. Although we did pretty much get married two years later. Great timing!

I wouldn't buy him anything (unless there's something he particularly wanted).

A home cooked meal/ special evening in could be nice.

But deffo not a specific Valentine gift. Wouldn't waste my money.

I wouldn't want to go out for valentines as it's cringey! But I still think it's nice to give him something or even do something nice for him!

We don't do valentines either. Not even cards. Probably the most unromantic time of year to go out for a meal as well, when everyone else is doing the same.

I cook a nice meal at home and have a few drink's we always get gifts for each other I usually get him a card aftershave and some little things.

Me and my bf don't do cards for any occasion! I don't see the point of a card if you see the person. Valentines we usually mark the day somehow and he usually gets me something varies as to what, he's a very good gift buyer though. I don't buy for him. March 14th is for the guys, no?

OP, I would as its important to her. Taking her to Paris for the weekend. She respects my decision that it's not for me, so a trip to Versailles (my thing) & dinner in Le Cinq & a drink up the Eiffel Tower after (her thing) seemed like a good compromise

When we were first together it used to be card and meal out but as soon as we lived together /got married we have a nice meal at home and an early night.

We don't do Valentine's Day cards and gifts, and we don't celebrate the day we got together usually (I cooked a nice meal.last year because I remembered, which we don't always do). But we have been together for 18 years and celebrate our wedding anniversary now instead. We didn't celebrate a year of getting together only because I was in hospital having DS, and the following year we were married.

We don't do valentines for much the same reason as everyone else.
Plus my birthday is within days of valentines and I like the focus to be on me!
(It's something I'm quite funny about. I do so much for my family, I expect to be treated like a princess for just one day a year. Woe betide DP if he doesn't...)

newstart well the pregnancy was unplanned but we knew pretty soon that we wanted to get married.

Happens to be our wedding anniversary. We had planned a Novemeber wedding but found out I would of been heavily pregnant with ds1. So moved everything right and the first date we were we all free was 14 feb .
As dh is navy we haven't spent many anniversarys together. So I'll probably send dh a card this year and he will send me one

I just get my husband heart shaped choc or something.

Also we celebrate our getting together anniversary, it will always be our main anniversary before our wedding anniversary - I suppose it depends how long you were together before married, if not long then it prob wouldn't have had the time to become a special day.

Me and dh have been together 19 years and always do a little something for valentines

Dh always sends a soppy message during the day which is unlike him as he's not the heart on sleeve kind
Meal at home
Bottle of champnage
Fancy box of chocolates and a film

Just make him a nice, home cooked meal.
Failing that, a chocolate monster from Thorntons !

To me Valentine's Day is more for those who secretly admire someone.

We normally get a take away and then once dc are asleep slip off to bed with bubbly
