If your 11 year old ds sent you this via Whatsapp in response your telling him to go to bed at 10.30 pm, would you be upset? Disturbed?

I would confiscate his 'phone, tbh.
Then ask him why he thought that appropriate. (assuming no additional needs?)

I'd laugh.

My 11 year old has a very well developed sense of humour though. Actually, I'd probably respond with a bomb icon.

I'm not a massive fan of emojis for exactly this reason. I can't tell if he meant
"Oh my god mum, why don't you put a gun to my head to make me go to bed, you are SO UNFAIR"
or
"I don't want to go to bed, I want to kill you."

Only you know which is more likely.

Why is your 11yo up at 10.30?

Inappropriate responses- I'd confiscate phone and have a chat with him.

He goes to bed at 9.30pm at school.

He's a weekly boarder.

I thought he could stay up an hour later on a Friday night with me.

I have taken the phone.

Wouldn't be overly concerned all depends on his Nature thought .

It wouldn't worry me, it's a commonly used emoji amount the younger generation. At least Apple changed it from a fun to a water pistol

It would depend on other factors. If I knew he went in for inappropriate jokes I would see it like that. If he had never sent anything similar I would tell him off. If he was a bit odd it would worry me

I don't think he meant something sinister! I use that emoji combination frequently! Normally accompanied with a 'fml'.

E.g. In the context of being told I had an early morning meeting on a Saturday
