Cybersex/'chatting' with strangers - is it harmless fun or a bit weird?

A couple of months ago on a bored whim I signed up to a a website for casual sex, I haven't met anyone but have been talking to a couple of people on and off and normally ends up with 'cybersex'.

I don't know if this is weird though? I enjoy it, am single so there is not cheating or anything but sometime wonder if this would be seen as really weird?

What type of cybersex? Is it involving photos/videos/webcams?

If it's just text, and it's not talking about anything illegal like pretending to be underage/bestality/whatever, I suppose there is no harm if you're enjoying it.

If it is using any type of imagery, which feels more likely in this day and age, then there is always the chance that it's being recorded/shared and may end up on the internet. Whilst we have better revenge porn rules these days, that doesn't work as an absolute deterrent. And even if they were charged, the photos/videos would still be online forever more.

I'd be slightly concerned that any long text conversations could become fodder for someone unsavoury to blackmail you into photos etc, so I'd make sure nothing that you said would be really awful if it was released with your mobile number, but other than that - it's okay, I think.

Casual sex isn't the same - that's far more risky. Keep your location hidden, don't mention anything about where you live/work that could help people find you, make sure your social media is locked down.

If you're single, enjoying yourself and not putting yourself at risk then what's the harm? If you start meeting up with strangers and compromising your safety you really need to consider some measures to keep safe, but otherwise I don't see what it's got to do with anyone else. Each to their own I say. I think it sounds less weird and yuck than what I have heard about pof and Tinder.

I personally wouldn't do it. Partly I'm old fashioned in that way and I wouldn't trust strange men with naked photos of me if I was single. But times are moving on and if people enjoy it so be it.

I'm not convinced that this is a healthy way to spend your time, but you're not hurting anyone and are free to do as you wish. Until you get some pillock's partner reading all your messages. Or their friends who they're passing your number around to

Nothing weird about enjoying expressing your self sexually and indulging in shared ideas/fantasies. There is no reason why this can not be a lot of fun. After all great sexual experience is a mainly a product of the mind. No harm feeding it if your enjoying it.

Be very very careful about sending pictures or using a live webcam. There are individuals out there who will capture that video and the next thing you know, you will be immortalised on a porn website.

Having said that, and with all the cautions, it can be fun, a bit of escapism and sometimes you click with someone.
