If your mum has very pale grey/blue eyes and your father has pale hazel eyes is it possible to have a dark brown eyed child?

The child can, I think, get a dominant eye colour gene from further back in the family. What colour are the grandparents eyes?

Yes, it's totally possible. The myth that two blue eyed parents can't have a brown eyed child has been totally debunked.

My nephew has blue eyes and both his parents have brown eyes. Both his grandmothers have blue eyes.

Yes, because eye colour is influenced by a number of genes. So maybe it is unusual but perfectly possible.

Me and DH are the other way round - both very dark brown eyes and one of our boys is blue eyed.

Yep same way DDs dad and I and grandparents have dark brown hair but DD has fire red hair. DDs dad and I have Irish/Scottish heritage and we must have both passed on the recessive red gene from further back in the gene pool.

Yes, neither my husband or me have brown eyes (one blue, one green/hazel) and one of my dd has dark brown eyes! I think it is the pale hazel that does it!

Two brown eyed parents can have a blue eyed child, but two blue eyed parents CAN NOT have a brown eyed child!!! That is not a myth, it is genetics!!!!!

My (limited) understanding is that the brown eyed gene is dominant so it would be possible for them to have a child with dark brown eyes.

Dh and I have dark eyes and have dd with strange bluey brown eyes and ds with bright blue eyes. Both our fathers have blue eyes so we assume we both passed on the recessive gene.

Surely paddy if the dark brown gene is dominant then the parents would have dark brown themselves? I have suspicions my sibling is only my half sibling.

It says here it is uncommon but it can happen, if the gene for pigmentation is wrong, as there is more than one gene involved in eye colour.

Eye colour is coded for on 6 different genes. So yes they could. I have a brown eyed child and a blue eyed child and j have green eyes and their fathers have blue.

My dm has grey/blue eyes and my df has green, one sister has blue eyes the other green and I have brown eyes.

Dh a d I both have blue though dh has brown flecks. Both our dads ha e deep brown eyes.

Dd1 has deep brown eyes
D's has hazel/grey eyes
Dd2 has light brown eyes

There's no doubt about parentage. Genetics isn't that simple!

Bounty's link above explains it really well. The old theory of 'two blue eyed parents can't have a brown eyed child is now known to be false', so if this is the only reason for your suspicions then you can relax.

Glitter I think that's a bit of a simplistic chart though as there's no hazel, which definitely does exist! I'd hate anyone to be determining paternity off these rather simple charts.
