How do people financially manage divorce?

I think we should divorce, but don't know how I'd manage financially.
We don't have a huge house to sell, and I don't earn much. I would want to look after the 2 dc due to (d)h's job.
We could uproot and move somewhere cheaper, but dc2 is autistic and moving area would be awful.
I would appreciate some success stories please of what people did, and how they coped.

If you are doing the majority if the care you will be able to get child maintenance and depending on your income child and working tax credits.
There won't be the same amount of money as you'll need to run 2 homes instead of 1 and splitting the capital in your current home may be difficult unless you are prepared to downsize and move - the risk I'd unseting your children.
Please try and avoid a Mesher Order as it postpones the inevitable, good luck!

Usually all that's possessed by him and you is called the marital pot and then that's divided usually with young children you'd get a lot more of it and probably hang onto the house.

BUT!! get an appointment with a solicitor who will be better to advise you on what you'll be entitled to.

A Mesher is where you keep hold of the home until your children teacher either 18 or another date agreed. The difficulty arises, particularly for lower earning women, is that then you may be in a position to not be able to afford to buy anywhere else.

Do remember no two divorce settlements are the same as everyone's circumstances are individual so be wary of people telling you that you are 'entitled'.
