When a simple request becomes a drama

Me: DH please could you charge the hedgetrimmer as I am going to cut the hedge today?
DH: do you know where the charger is?
Me: no last time it was out was when you trimmed the hedge
Cue 30 mins of huffing and puffing in the garage
Me: don't worry I also want to tidy the garage so will start on that first I am sure the charger will turn up then.
DH: I never know when you are planning to do these things
Me: it's not a big drama I will start on the garage first it will turn up. Not sure why you are making such a drama of this?
DH: I am not but you keep springing things on me

Warning this is what retirement does to you. Hd has too much time on his hands. He's a lovely man but if I ask him if he would do something (when he has a moment) it has to be done immediately. First world problem I guess.

Note I made the drama comment after a lot of huffing and puffing from DH!!

Can see how this might be annoying .
But....Drama can only be drama when two people engage in it, you are both playing your preagreed roles here.
Shake the script up a bit! Ignore the huffing and puffing.And tidy up that garage the pair of you! And maybe charge your own hedge trimmers?

OP would charge her own hedge trimmers if she knew where her DH had put the charger the last time he used it.

Lol. We are now tidying up the garage together.

Maybe that's not how he planned to spend his day? My ex used to do this just because he was spending the day in the garden sorting stuff out didn't mean I was up for it but I felt I had to help and couldn't just sit inside reading. If you'd have asked where he put the charger last time fair enough but you kind of reeled him in to doing the task you wanted to get done

Yesterday:
Me: I'm going to trim the hedge today.
DH: Are you sure? It looks like rain. (it was gloriously sunny)
Me: Yes, it'll be fine.
DH: Are you sure it's the right time of year?
Me: Yes, google said May or August.
DH: Are you sure it's not too late in August?
Me: Yes.
DH: I'd just like to leave it to get a bit more established before trimming it. (the hedge was planted 4 years ago and at this point is 7 feet high, 4 feet thick and EXTREMELY well established)
Me: It's too big and untidy, I'm doing it.
DH: I don't believe in trimming hedges. I think we should just let it grow.
Me:
DH: goes outside and looks.
Me: Well? What do you think?
DH: At least it'll grow back.

I had no idea hedges could cause so much angst.
