Marriage break up practicalities

Can I ask if I'm married does it matter that I don't pay the mortgage or am on the mortgage to us splitting the house 50:50 in a split, impending marriage breakdown.
I have my old house that I pay a mortgage on, it's rented out, does he have a claim on my house?
Just having a financial wobble and trying to get my ducks in a row.
Wish me luck and any comment is appreciated.

If you are married everything in the marriage (marital assets) are shared. If you both had houses before you were married it's likely that on the end of your marriage you would both revert back to your own properties, all things being equal eg neither or both of you have dependent children.

It doesn't matter who pays the mortgage. You are entitled to half the value of his pension for every you were married too.

Thanks imother. So my old house and our substantially more expensive house would be put into a marital pot and split between us less mortgages. We have 3 dcs, married 11 years. I had inheritance going into the marriage. He had no savings but is a much higher earner now.
As his family live next door I want to find another place.
