tracking a mobile phone

Am looking for practical help and advice please. I've received a couple of nasty anonymous texts. I have the mobile number. When I call it is says 'the mobile you've called is not available' usually, but twice it has rung twice then cut. I am guessing it might be a pay as you go. Is there a way of tracking/tracing who it belongs to or where it is? TIA

If it rings twice then cuts they have blocked you. If you ring it from another number or put 141 before the number it will ring.

You can't track it unless you have physical access to it.

Thanks for messages - it rings twice then cuts, but I've always done 141 first. I've googled the number and tried doing it with spaces in different parts too. Have put it in fb. Have spoken to private detective agencies who say they can use gprs/gps to track it, and 'no find, no fee', but it is £300+, and I'm worried they'll make up a random address etc?

Have you thought about reporting it to the police or simply blocking the number?

Do you have a suspicion of who is sending the messages?

The messages are malicious and specific to me. They aren't threatening which is why the police are not able to do anything, or not interested.

I have a suspicious but my gut tells me I'm wrong, and aside from that suspicion I really have no idea other than it is someone close to me, from things that were said :(

As they are not malicious, block and save yourself 300 plus , if you are wanting to prove it is who you have suspicions ... What do you intend to use it for !!! Court ... Solicitors ?

Thank you, but they are malicious, and they are getting worse. I would like it to stop, and if necessary, yes, for court.

Have you tried calling from your landline (with 141 in front)?

Enter the number in the Facebook search bar; it will bring up any linked profiles. This has been helpful to me a few times before when Google didn't bring up any results.

You can put the number into the search bar on the facebook app and if the number is linked to a facebook account it'll come up

If it is an X partner of the person you are close to, get him to have a word maybe, sour grapes , block and ignore , who ever it is will soon get bored

They are accusing me of nasty things (untruths, but an incredibly sensitive subject), and one was actually sent to another member of my close family too.

I'm guessing it was a pay as you go phone with a 'throwaway' sim, and not sure if these can be tracked?

I understand why you would want to know who it is but I think it's healthier to block the number , if possible

There are no ex partners under suspicion - my concern is that it is a close friend who I haven't yet identified

Don't think pay as you go can , or sims, if they are accusing you of something serious why are the police not interested , doesn't make sense .

The police aren't interested because it is not something illegal or threatening.

I would suggest you try and ignore these calls , you need to change your security settings on fb, and try and move on from it.

I am so torn between moving on and putting it out my mind - I haven't done what I'm being accused of, and they are trying to cause trouble. But, I'm worried about what their next move/strike will be and the upset it is causing me and my family.

Generally, the less work the police can do the better (it's a civil matter sir) so this sounds like a fob-off.

Are these messages causing you distress (it seems they are) ? If so they are a pattern of harassment. Which is a criminal offence, and the sort of thing the police used to investigate.

Yes, I felt like I was making a fuss over nothing and being fobbed off. But these are causing myself and my family a great deal of distress. Thank you - I will pursue it with regards to it being harassment.

Are they texts that you wouldn't want a partner to see in case he believed you, eg "I know you're having an affair with your boss"?
