Ex-relationship at work

I really need some advice.

I had a very intense relationship with a man at work, about 14 years ago. It all ended pretty horribly but after a few years we tried to be friends. The friendship didn't work out and now we don't speak at all and we've both moved on to new relationships. He is very bitter.

There has been a reshuffle at work and it means I am now working for this man. I don't know what to do. He knows EVERYTHING about me, all the deep dark secrets, and I will have to sit in meetings with him.

He's generally pretty unprofessional and I don't want to work for him, even taking out the fact he's my ex. I don't know what to do and I can't sleep for worrying about it. I think he's going to screw me over to get rid of me so he doesn't have to deal with me. I'm good at my job, I love it, and I don't want to be forced out just because he can't handle the fact that we have history but I can see that happening.

Is there any way you could arrange to work under a different manager? Perhaps you could speak to his boss or HR and just say that you and he were together a long time ago but aren't on good terms now, you're uncomfortable working in the same team as him and are already worried he may be unprofessional towards you. The reshuffle would indicate a change is possible so you may be able to work away from him.

I would speak to HR, they would probably prefer to reassign you to a different manager.

I don't want to be that person who makes a fuss. I don't want to make it known we were in a relationship l, that part of my life is over.
