A few questions about dv

If I experienced dv from my abusive arsehole H in a very public place where I am sure there were CCTV cameras, would the police be able to find the footage as evidence if I gave them the time and day? Or would they not be bothered and just take a statement?

What is the process I will be taken through if I report it?

If I am now safe and unlikely to experience any further dv, would it make more sense to report it immediately and go down the police route, or pretend everything's fine, get my ducks in a row, see a solicitor and then file for divorce so I can get my fair share of martial assets to protect me and my DC's future?

Last question is relevant because I feel that if I am distracted with police report, H will faff around hiding money and emptying bank account.

Anyone?

Hi,

Well there will be a time limit re reporting. 6 months I believe for an assault matter. But I'd report ASAP.

Re the money, can you get your hands on documents? I'm not sure that hiding money is legal. The law is the law on divorce and if you keep the kids you get a share of the assets..

But it may be a good idea to get some proper legal advice. Try wikivorce for a start...free advice from there

It may be worth looking at how long the cctv images are stored too as this may make it more important to report sooner if you wanted to? (I have no idea myself they could be kept for years but suspect it might be much less)
