Did I have sex during ovulation ? I really do not want to be pregnant

Hi,

So I had sex on Wednesday; but the condom broke, it contained sperm, 4 hours later I went to the pharmacy and brought and took the levonille.

I think the first day of my last period was around the 18th- 21st May; though I've been reading that the morning after pill has less chance of working if you are ovulating; so I am very worried.

If you have regular 28 day cycles you would have ovulated between the 31st May to 3rd June.
Wednesday was the 9th of June, so if your cycle is very reliable you wouldn't have been ovulating then.
I have to say I haven't heard that the MAP was unreliable mid cycle. I have taken it mid cycle many years ago and didn't become pregnant.

Think I calculated that right!!

Levonelle is less effective around ovulation

The most effective emergency contraception is the emergency coil, if you have a sexual health clinic nearby that is open today (I think it has to be fitted within 5 days of the sex)

Ullipristal is another morning after pill which is more effective around ovulation, I think it is prescription only

Depend on length of your cycle really. You took it the tablet really soon after so you've given it the best chance.

I was thinking of getting the coil; but I was worried about possible scarring and I've read on other forums that the coil is not recommended for someone of a young age like myself.

I'm currently getting lower cramps; sore boobs; sweaty armpits (sorry to be explicit) are these pregnancy symptoms? Or the symptoms of the Levonille?

The symptoms you list are all known side effects of Levornelle

Well, yes, of course.. Levornelle is estimated to prevent about 85% of pregnancies that would otherwise have occurred. Those pregnancies can only occur around ovulation. It cannot therefore fail other than around ovulation.

Even for early pregnancy symptoms for you to feel anything 4 days after having sex would be wayyyyyyyyy too early.

Sound like the side effects of it to me from when I had it. Again agree far too early for pregnancy symptoms.

And remember Levornelle can muck up your cycle (up to about 5 days).

Do you still have the pack patient information leaflet? Because this sort of info is on it.

The conception or contraception board might be a better place for this?

It would be helpful if you could remember the exact day your last period started? And if you know whether your cycles are mostly similar in length, and if so how long they usually are?

But assuming a roughly average cycle length, you should have ovulated well before the sex, so you should be fine.

Why don't you go to your GP or a family planning clinic for advice on contraceptive options? They'll tell you about the pros and cons of the coil and other options.

I have always favoured a "belt and braces" approach, pill or coil plus condoms if having sex with a new or casual partner.

How do condoms seem to break so easily? I hear it often.

I don't know why it happens. I guess condoms are pretty flimsy and sex can get... vigorous I also wonder if it has something to do with the size of the condom. If it's too small it's more likely to break. I remember a friend of mine telling me it kept happening with the guy she was seeing - he was rather well endowed and it only happened when they used the condoms she had bought (presumably standard size) but not the ones he got (presumably a bit bigger!)

Well, yes, of course..*

Levonelle given pre ovulation aims to delay ovulation.
Levonelle given close to, or after, ovulation, cannot do this and so is less effective.
IUD or ullipristral can be effective in the latter part of your cycle

Hopeless so when I had sex did I pre ovulate . I'm finding it confusing working out ovulation dates and so forth.

As I said PP it would help if you could tell us the first day of your last period, and your usual cycle length.

It's not actually that complicated if you have those two essential bits of info.

There is an easy way to keep track if you have a smartphone; you can download one of the period tracking apps (I use Clue but there are loads) and use that to record when you get your period. You can even set up alerts to tell you when it's your fertile window and when you're due to ovulate. (Helpful when TTC but also when TT avoid C!)

Well my periods always last 4- 5 days.

I have done some detective work ( as I know what I was doing whilst I was on my last period) and I'm definitely sure I started my period between the 18th- 21st May; but I have a feeling that I started my period on the 18th as I remembered on the day of the 21st thinking that I "can't wait till this period is over". So I was possibly still on my period on the 21st.. Waiting a day or two for it to actually finish.

The length of your period doesn't matter. It's the length of your cycle, ie. how many days between the first day of each period?

The average is 28/29 days depending which source you use. But obviously there is a lot of variation. My average cycle is about 30 days.

Assuming your cycle length is average, you probably ovulated on or around Wed 1 June. If that's the case there is no chance you could get pregnant on Wed 8 June.

It would only be a possibility if you had very long cycles.
