Last of the great romantics ...

DP has just come home with a present for me .... Shoes!

They're walking shoes which were reduced to £11 in Sports Direct, and he had a £5 voucher. In fairness we had a lovely walk last week and have said we want to do more, but I did mention I needed a decent pair of walking shoes.

His last surprise gift was a carbon monoxide alarm, he'd noticed my place doesn't have one.

He doesn't do flowers, too expensive for something that will just die apparently, I had to bully him into getting some for his mum when she had an op (she loves flowers and appreciated them). But he is incredibly thoughtful in his way, and considerate and I wouldn't have him any other way.

Yep.

Mine bought me a shed for Easter one year and a 200ltr dual wheeled wheelbarrow for Christmas.

Perfect gifts for me as he's long since learnt not to waste money on diamonds and flowers!

I think someone who notices things you actually need is very romantic... Much more so than generic roses and champagne (which isn't to say that the odd impetuous bunch of flowers goes amiss every now and again... DH I'm looking at you )

I'd be over the moon with presents like that. I am horribly practical though.

I did buy DH a pair of wellies one year for his birthday (we had not long got an allotment and he doesn't really celebrate birthdays).

I got wellies for Christmas Brenna! I did also get a lovely watch too.

I'm very happy with my walking shoes, and looking forward to trying them out.

I get DVDs that he wants to watch himself hahaha! He did once write me a poem though and it was lovely!

Actually, walking shoes when you needed some, had been out for a walk together and said you wanted to do more is the sort of incredibly romantic gift I would love to receive.

Far more romantic than the tired old cliche of flowers that require no thought or imagination.

Yeah you're right LateNight, it was very thoughtful of him. I guess it just tickles me he's so practical, probably because I'm really not! And because he took great pride in telling me it only cost him £6 with his voucher. They're really nice shoes though so I'm suitably impressed by his bargain finding skills.

I've had a head torch, a spare diesel can, and a clothes line in my time. All things I needed, and I was touched he'd (a) noticed and (b) put up the clothes line for me.

But to give DP his due, he also arrives with flowers for no reason, takes me out for dinner a fair bit and leaves little notes for me to find in my coat pockets, so on balance, I reckon he's a good 'un.

I would prefer that than some rubbish flowers from the petrol station given with no thought at all

He is responding to your wishes and wants. Top marks from me.

I was just about to move into my DP's place when we went to zoo. The penguins were my favourite animal, so he made me wait outside the shop so he could surprise me...... with a penguin table mat for when I ate at the dinner table

I got breville toastie maker for xmas once!

I think the carbon monoxide alarm was the most romantic as it shows how someone really cares whether you live or die - can't get much more romantic than that.
