Have name changed, don't want to out myself as this whole situation is embarrassing enough.

Split with ex last month. He has left me in masses of debt, I stupidly put it all on my credit cards etc, he refuses to pay any of this but I am willing to hold my hands up and admit I was stupid in getting it all in my name, so know it is my responsibility.

I have a child from a previous relationship who is 4. When ex left he stole my poor child's money box which contained £300+ Dc is old enough to realise it has gone, at the weekend asked to go to toys r us, I said will have to wait until next week when mummy gets paid. He ran to bedroom, noticed the box had gone and was in floods of tears. It contained pocket money, bits and bobs that family and friends had given as spends, and myself and ex also put money in when we had loose change etc. He has promised to returned it on numerous occasions, but the latest is why should he, so I can spend it when I'm skint. I have screen shots of messages where he agrees he has it, and says he will return it. Will the police be interested in this? Or is it just something else I am going to have to pay for and replace because of this 'man'.

I'd be ringing the police. He's admitted he's stolen it. I'd ring 101 for advice.

Have just got off phone to the police and the lady was lovely thankfully. She has logged it down, as it is classed as theft and they are sending someone out to see me as its a domestic crime she said (???)

Hopefully they don't come tonight as I'm in pjs in bed, but hopefully we will get somewhere with it.

Follow it up relentlessly. There are new and as yet untried and untested rules on emotional and financial abuse. The law is bulging at the seams to flex its new muscles on this particular beach. Make him pay tenfold.

Iflyaway ds is very intelligent but at four years old he noticed his money box had disappeared from his bedside table- like I stated. Not that he knows all about my relationship issues, just Incase you read it wrong.

I will try to update whatever the outcome. It's the principal more than anything, but we don't really have much- nothing of monetary value really (that said we want for nothing) him taking this just seems like he has something to cling onto the relationship. Obviously I was going to ask him for it back and by me asking I am maintaining contact. Thankfully, I have grew wise today!

As SleepingTiger has said, there's a stash of new law chomping at the bit waiting to be put to good use and I hope you're visited by a copper who's looking to make a name for her/himself.

If you have evidence, no matter how slim, that you accumulated debt that should rightfully be attributed to your ex, you can pursue him in the small claims or county courts and I'd be happy to help you file a claim which may lead to him repaying you in part or in full without the case needing to be heard.

With regard to we don't really have much- nothing of monetary value really (that said we want for nothing, the love you share with your ds is of far more value than all the money in the world and can only serve to ensure that, no matter how humble, your home will always be one of the happiest on the planet.

Never forget that you're a , Louisa! Share these goodies with your ds and rest assured that your despicable lowlife ex will fall victim to - or a flock of them, as the case may be
