Is this weird?

I work with a couple who have been together for about a year.

I was talking to the female of the couple this morning about a work related problem when the man came in and nipped my waist. His partner did not look impressed by this and to be honest it made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I am not more than an acquaintance to either of the couple and I wouldn't dream of touching one of my male work colleagues around the waist.

Obviously I'm just going to let it go but just wanted opinions on whether this is normal

No it is not normal. If he does it again I would just trun to him and politely say 'please don't do that, thank you.'
I'd give him the benefit of the doubt in case he's just a touchy feeling person, if he persists after being told, then thats a whole other issue....

Hmmm, I think it depends.
It's normal in my friendship group to rock up behind someone and grab them by the waist, or tap their bum, but we would never, ever do it to someone who wasn't an intimate member of the group.

So best case scenario, he forgot himself.
But from the partners reaction I'm guessing he's a knob bit flirty maybe?

It's not ok for anyone to touch you if it's unwanted though, regardless of what that "touch" entails.

The man is either socially inept in the manner of David Brent, and was trying to super casual and friendly (how awkward) in front of the new GF or he's a slimy letch who wants you to be his next office fling.

Reading your post made me involuntarily clench my buttocks in discomfort.

I wonder if he walked away thinking "why on earth did I just touch WTAFF like that?! That was awkward and embarrassing."

I have done similar, over familiar things to people I don't know very well - I don't know why I do it.

I kissed and hugged a bemused woman who I vaguely know from DS' playgroup once, just because I saw her in the supermarket.
