Favourite words of wisdom to get you through

Just stinging from a breakup and was wondering what people's favourite words of wisdom or sayings were to make them feel better or the ones that stand out as being completely true?

One of mine is "what's for you won't go by you"

I can't remember the exact wording, but I like the AA affirmation "give me the courage to change what I can change, the serenity to accept what I can't change, and the wisdom to know the difference". I actually pretty much try to live my life by that.

All great ones :)

someone told me today

"you can't control how someone else feels about you"

"To thine own self be true"

Talking of songs, 'Southern Cross' by Crosby Still and Nash became an anthem for me in hard times. It tells of a break up and the storm of feelings afterward, and in the song the former couple in time gradually learn to look more kindly on what happened. It used to make me hopeful in a strange sort of way. Good tune too.

'And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.'
Julian of Norwich

Something about the rhythm of it makes me feel calmer - I say it in my head rather than just thinking it, if that makes sense?!

I also like to stand and look at the sea - that helps me feel calmer and get things in perspective. Helps that I live by the coast!

Good luck OP Flowers

'If you're going through hell, keep going.'

Winston Churchill.

Today is the worst you will feel... each coming day you will feel better

moonfacebaby · 13/11/2015 18:15

Sometimes you have to forget how you feel & remember what you deserve

HappyHopefulStrongerAlone · 13/11/2015 18:31

Moonfacebaby that is ace!

Love is like a fart. If you have to force it, it's probably shit.

Reese123 · 13/11/2015 23:02

God will sometimes end a relationship for your protection. Don't chase after the person he's trying to protect you from

Reese123 · 13/11/2015 23:04

One of the happiest moments ever is when you feel the courage to let go of what you cannot not change.

WellWhoKnew · 13/11/2015 23:16

KOKO.

moonfacebaby · 14/11/2015 08:56

HappyHopefulStronger......it's a good one, isn't it?

That's been my mantra through a break up recently & the Dalai Lama one mentioned earlier "sometimes not getting what you want is a stroke of luck".

Just had this posted on my FB page. MLK.

'Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that'

Also find the Serenity Prayer useful in day to day life.

Onedayinthesun · 14/11/2015 10:50

I love the Amy Winehouse lyrics from her song Tears dry on their own...

"I should be my own best friend"

FelineLou · 14/11/2015 14:57

I wept because I had no shoes and then I met a man who had no feet.

ALaughAMinute · 14/11/2015 15:14

Just keep going in the knowledge you will get to the other side.

FrancisdeSales · 16/11/2015 05:27

It will all be alright in the end; if it's not alright it's not the end.

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell

Loving this thread.

Nina Simone's 'Aint got no - I got life' works for me during 'those' kind of times.

And what have I got?
Why am I alive anyway?
Yeah, what have I got
Nobody can take away?

Got my hair, got my head
Got my brains, got my ears
Got my eyes, got my nose, got my mouth,
I got my smile
I got my tongue, got my chin
Got my neck, got my boobs
Got my heart, got my soul
Got my back,
I got my sex

I got my arms, got my hands
Got my fingers, got my legs
Got my feet, got my toes
Got my liver,
Got my blood

I've got life,
I've got my freedom
I've got life!

CheeseBored · 16/11/2015 10:41

There were a few from here that have stayed with me. Something about 'its all a drop in life's big cup'.

Chin up and tits out.

If you are sad, apply more lipstick and attach (Coco Chanel)

am also smarting from a recently ended relationship. Here's to us Flowers
