Hi I was wondering if any of you have any experience of how long it takes for the courts to respond to a divorce petition? I posted my divorce papers a month ago, I know they arrived because I sent them registered post and I can see they have been signed for, but the cheque still hasn't been cashed and I have heard nothing from them. It was the Southampton office.

It very much depends on the workload that is before the Court at any given time and it's not uncommon for cheques to be held until it has been established that the documents which have been filed are correct.

If you haven't heard back by the end of next week, I suggest you call the Court office to ascertain whether the papers you've filed are in order and when you can expect to hear from them with regard to your Petition.
