Rape case report in local news!!

MsMarthaMay · 14/09/2015 19:10

Please help me. My ex has just been sent to prison for raping me. The local newspaper have published an article about the case including quite intimate details about what he did. They haven't named me but they named him and gave enough other detail that anyone who knows me could use to identify me. Please can anyone tell me how to get them to remove it? There's no answer on their phone number and I'm really upset and desperate for them to take it down. Sat here shaking

Martha, I agree with others that you have nothing to be ashamed of and you should be proud that you did such a very brave thing.

I also was able to identify the article from details you gave. I have contacted the Editor this morning and I see that the article has now been edited.

Aramynta · 15/09/2015 09:56

I'm glad they have edited the article OP. For what it's worth I think you should request this whole thread is removed. It is still quite identifying even if unintentional.

Thanks

No advice but Flowers for you Martha

MsMarthaMay · 15/09/2015 10:30

I spoke to the editor this morning. They said a member of the public had also phoned, that must have been you Nightbird, thank you Flowers
She agreed to remove the year so that it can be directly linked to the time he was with me.

Blu, thank you for saying that. I'm calming down a little.

I guess shaming him is the most important thing here. One of the reasons I went to the police was to stop him doing it to someone else and I guess getting his name out there is an important part of that.

I just want to put it behind me though and I feel like it just won't go away.

Oh god I read this article and thought of you, but thought since the sentence didn't match it wasn't you.
I'm so so sorry Flowers
You are so brave and by his name being in the public domain it IS a good thing. Deep breaths, the world knows he's a monster.

MsMarthaMay · 15/09/2015 14:12

I don't feel very brave atm. I'm doubting wether I should have reported it all.

Are you in the same town as me then, Nicole?

katiemorovsky · 15/09/2015 14:33

Yes you are incredibly brave. Yes you did the right thing to report it.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you, and this must be really hard to go through but your actions may have helped to stop him hurting someone else.

Hold your head high. What an amazing, brave and strong woman you are.

Joysmum · 15/09/2015 14:58

Glad to see they've removed the year. It's no wonder so many women don't report. That paper is a disgrace.

NicoleWatterson · 15/09/2015 15:38

You totally did the right thing reporting it, genuinely you really really did. The fact he thought he'd done nothing at all is reason alone. You must feel violated knowing this awful personal thing he did is out there in the public. But he did this, you may wear the scars but it is his name out there, his identity and face known as a vile individual. Yours isn't, although you should feel no shame if it was. You know it's you, no one else does unless you choose to tell them. People knowing does nothing but bring shame on him.

Now of course it may not be the same article, if it is I'm not local to you, no. A friend (who is local) linked to another article, and this one appeared too. I read it because I knew it was sentence time for you and the case sounded similar.

Ubik1 · 15/09/2015 19:30

It's

MiscellaneousAssortment · 15/09/2015 19:40

So glad they did something to help protect your privacy a bit. What an awful end to such a bloody amazing result. I was on the sentencing thread and can have a guess how this has effected you, I'm so sorry Flowers.

Don't let that bastard take away your pride and respect. If I knew who you are in rl or lived near you (I absolutely don't have a clue where you are btw, you are still very much anonymous on here), anyway, IF I did, I'd think to myself 'here goes X, that bloody brilliant strong and amazing woman', and nothing else.

No shame on you, it's all on him. X

Justaboy · 16/09/2015 00:40

Course in some countries if the woman gets raped they end up shaming her even killing her because shes now impure or some other cobblers.

There are some real savages around;(

Gladdened to hear its been sorted for you:)
