Leaving me with a debt

hazel1910 · 28/08/2015 06:48

My partner has walked out on me and the kids. He paid the gas/electric as it was in his name only (I paid other bills), but has stated he will not pay for the gas/electric which was due to be paid this week for the last quarter.
I am on a low wage and do not have the money to pay the bill.
Do I have to pay? or As the bill is in is name does he have to pay?
Help needed please.

Phone them up. Tell them it is in your name as of x date. Give them the new meter reading and his contact details for chasing of the old bill.

You can't discuss previous debt as it is not in your name and it is nothing to do with you.

Exactly what magoria has said.

Shame it's not winter - you could have whacked the heating up 24/7 and used every electrical appliance with impunity for a few weeks before telling the relevant service provider(s) that you have taken over the property containing their meters with effect from x date and giving the final meter readings for their previous customer.

Although the bills are due, I suggest you spend the weekend or longer running a chinese laundry for yourself and your pals before making the necessary call(s). Smile

That is all great news xx
I have been telling the kids to not switch lights on in the house and make sure everything is switched off as I need to count every penny now for all extra bills I have to pay now he's gone.
I will make sure to contact old supplier to notify them of changes straight away.
Thank you xx

There's no need to rush - you can have the house lit up like a Christmas tree and use all of the electrical appliances as often as you want until, say, Tuesday or Wednesday when you make the call.
