How horrible a comment is this?

Told my parents that I was being made redundant to which DM replied 'I suppose that they're picking the people they want to get rid of'.

So used to her saying horrible things that it's hard to judge although I think that it's particularly insensitive

Omg that's awful. I've been made redundant 3 times and my DH successfully fought his one time and has since progressed his career. You must be feeling very unsettled right now and in need of some reassurance. I'm sorry your mum didn't give you that.

Was it insensitive or just plain nasty? Could be taken as either. You know her best. What do you think her intent was?

Without meaning to offend, that is generally what is done during redundancy is it not?

It was a few years ago but thanks for the kind words.
I was being bullied in my job and I actually took voluntary redundancy but if I'd told them that I'd never have heard the end of it....Christ, 40 year old still intimidated by her parents.
I think that she is a narc and I've been doing counselling to try and get my head straight. Just hard to know,, when you're used to hearing insensitive comments how insensitive something is.
Even if you thought it about someone's situation you wouldn't say it to them, would you? I'd certainly never say it to my kids.
