He's told the CSA that he earns less than £7 a week so he doesn't have to pay anything for his ds. Despite having a flat, a car and having just bought a 60" smart TV. He's self employed, fiddles his books and works cash in hand. CSA have said its up to me to prove he's earning with statements or invoices (because obviously he'll just give me those!) He then told me last week he wants to claim tax credits for the dcs (he has them for a few hours on a weekend if he can be bothered) best part is, oldest dc isn't even his anyway!

It's not even about the money, it's about him going out of his way to avoid paying anything. Is there anyone who has managed to claim against a self employed ex?

He can't claim tax credits for the DC: they don't live with him. If he does claim, he is committing fraud.

You could possibly set the Revenue on him, as well, if he is fiddling his books to this extent.

You refer to him as XH rather than XP, so you were married - have you had legal advice on the divorce? It's important to remember that he doesn't get to make the rules. His pension, savings, the family home etc, all get divided according to what a judge thinks, not what this prick thinks. Well done for getting rid of him BTW - any man who will go out of his way not to pay towards his children's upbringing is a shitbag.

I currently have a thread running about this. I know my ex takes cash in hand a lot and doesn't declare it.

He's recently told me that he won't really have anything until October. Strange how he manages to go to the pub with his gf most nights and he's always in new, sometimes designer clothes.

Yes we are married, divorce is going through as we speak and very luckily we have no shared assets and that side of things is reasonably straight forward.

I did point out he can't claim, but apparently he's been told he can by a friend so he's going to try. You know those people that are so pig headed it's like arguing with a brick wall, he is one.

Oh yeah and no, definitely isn't entitled to ANY child tax credits!! Arghh this makes me so mad!!!

He can't get tax credits unless he's the resident parent.

Just to update, didn't turn up tonight. Again. No phone call, just nothing. Sigh. Not seen or spoken to them for over two weeks now.

Shop him to The Revenue.

You do have shared assets, as any asset either of you own is an asset of the marriage. Doesn't matter whose name it is in.

Not good news here either - my self employed ex outright refused to declare his earnings. They eventually took him to court and he has a Liability Order that he owes me 11k in maintenance.

He doesn't pay, doesn't see the kids and the CSA say they've done everything in their power so nothing else can be done.

It sucks.

I am in a similar situation although not as far down the line as you. My stbxh is self employed & pays no maintenance. He has not offered any & I have not brought it up because I know he will claim he can't afford to pay anything. I am trying to get him to go to mediation so we can talk about it but he is ignoring the mediation people when they contact him to make an appointment.

The ironic thing is he was very vocal about how out of order it was when my best friends ex didn't pay anything for his DS a few years ago. Ha!!

What's wrong with these men??
