Awww, I'll be your friend. Where do you live OP?

Chiefbumwiper · 05/05/2015 21:30

Post on the mums net local board. Or try the mummy social website. Xx

Some of my best friends are mums from school. Can you get involved with school or playgroup a bit?

tilliebob · 05/05/2015 21:32

Where are you OP? I have days when I feel like this too.

YDdraigGoch · 05/05/2015 21:34

Lots of people make friends at work. But if you're really sure you don't want to do that, then get involved in things like PTA, Brownies/Cubs, night class, Women's Institute, anything that gets you mixing with people.

evelynj · 05/05/2015 21:35

Aww, bless you.

Its not easy, my old good friends have no children & I feel us distancing. I've moved home 3 years ago & haven't made many new 'really good' friends, though some mums friends. Try to make the most of the time you spend with others and try not to dwell on it too much. Is there any time for you to join a club each week to meet others? Have you any friends you've lost touch with that you miss? Skype & regular phone calls to someone far away can help more than you think.

I'm here for venting if there's anything you'd like to talk about.

Also, don't think of it as spending time by yourself, think of it as spending time with yourself ;)

airedailleurs · 05/05/2015 21:35

OP how old is/are your dc? Can you get out in the evening to take up a hobby and meet people that way? Is there an activity/sport/hobby you'd like to do? Where do you live? Life need not be so lonely for you Flowers

Wherestherealme · 05/05/2015 21:37

Im in yorkshire. Its rubbish, im not anti social i do have people i speak to (polite conversations) but not a proper friend some i can have a moan with or have a giggle over a glass of wine with. I spent the weekend alone i didnt speak to another person from nursery pick up until sunday tea time when dcs came home.

I am in :) I am also lonley and in a need of a friend :) I am in Buckinghamshire

YDdraigGoch · 05/05/2015 21:40

Have you tried inviting some of the people you talk to to your home for a coffee, or to Costa etc if home doesn't appeal? Sometimes you have to take the initiative, rather than wait to be asked.

Wherestherealme · 05/05/2015 21:40

They are 3 5 & 9. Nope no chance of childcare through the week.

Wherestherealme · 05/05/2015 21:42

I have thought of that but then i stop myself just incase they say no (i would be so embarassed) see ive no confidence either ( not really selling myself as someone you would want to be friends with am i)

It's tricky. I used to have friends but my abusive ex cut me off from them gradually. I've accepted being on my own, although like you I get lonely.

OhGood · 05/05/2015 21:44

Flowers I feel like this sometimes too.

RandomMess · 05/05/2015 21:47

Could you get involved with the PTA at school? May make it easier to bridge the gap to inviting people around socially?

It is hard Flowers

Wherestherealme · 05/05/2015 21:48

Could you get involved with helping out at your older DCs' school? PTA stuff?

Do they have playdates with other DC? Can you get to know other mums that way? Sometimes you won't have anything in common other than DC of the same age and you can't get on with everyone, but there maybe one or two you click with?

crapfatbanana · 05/05/2015 21:49

Where in Yorkshire?

madgirlslovesong · 05/05/2015 21:49

I feel like this too. It is lonely

threenotfour · 05/05/2015 21:50

What about trying some hobby groups - walking, reading, crafts - whatever you fancy? Or if finances allow some adult education classes at the weekend? Then be as confidence as you can and push yourself to talk to others there and invite them for a coffee/drink? Friendships do take time to build so you will need to put the work in before you end up with those chilled evenings with a glass of wine, etc. Also if you are feeling lonely you possibly feel that the rest of the world is out dancing, drinking, laughing, etc...we're not usually. I have a few friends and I think of yes great remember when we got together...then I realise that it was 3 months ago since we last got together and I spend most Saturday nights doing washing and think everyone else in the world is out drinking, etc. :)

fiveacres · 05/05/2015 21:51

I find the problem is, whatever you can do, you have to stick £20 on top of the costs for babysitting.

Thinking of trying gingerbread and a sling meet ... hopefully might meet some (single) mums there. :)

namechange2015 · 05/05/2015 21:54

Me too, I used to have close female friends at school & I really miss that. I think, how come other women have kept these friendships up & I haven't. Distance maybe, getting too absorbed in kids, not working hard enough to keep up a friendship. Such a shame I'm lonely too even though I do loads of things in the community I don't have any close friendships :(

RandomMess · 05/05/2015 21:55

Does your youngest go to toddler groups? Help/join the committee?
