Arsey things they do to make your life difficult

I recently divorced and am staying in the family home with plans to sell next spring.
I have taken over all the bills.
However ex h is being really difficult about passing information such as insurance details.
His latest text...I no longer have breakdown cover and he is reluctant to tell me when car insurance due. Now I need car for work and to ferry kids round.
Any other obstructive things your exes do???

Take out your own insurance. Don't give him the power. What if you haven't got any?

mrsdavidbowie · 24/04/2015 08:16

Well yes I'm going to do that. But I'd like to know when it currently expires and see the paperwork.
This weekend will be spent on money supermarket.

There's a website something along the lines of "is my car insured". It will tell you for free if it is insured by just entering your reg number. If you need more information you have to pay. But it is only a t £4. Don't let him take control of your life. Good luck!!!

Is the car insured in your name? If so, phone the insurers and ask - you can probably download the policy documents again.

Do you have access to the bank account that was used to pay the insurance? That should tell you when it falls due as either there will be a lump sum to cover the year or the first monthly payment tends to be slightly different (higher or lower) than the others.

Everything was in his name. Yes I know....
Good idea tribpot..yes I do have access to that account.

So is the car actually in his name? I would imagine he could step up the arsiness levels soon and dispose of it?

HelenF350 · 24/04/2015 13:09

If the car is insured in his name as the main driver but you are the main driver you really need to get your own insurance. If the insurance company find out you are the main driver but are on the policy as a secondary driver they can technically refuse a claim.

Website AskMid will tell you if your car is insured. And it's free.

Car is still insured.
Unfortunately he paid insurance out of a different account. I will have to call Direct Line.
tribpot he could. Fuck I hadn't thought of that. I will put an ad in local paper telling everyone if he did.
