Couples counselling privately or on the NHS?

I have the option to go for couples counselling on the NHS (a 3 month wait though) or go privately.

Obviously the private one costs and would come out of our limited holiday budget. Is there any difference between the one on NHS and private?

Privately you will be able to choose when you appointments are with nhs I presume you will just be given a time and date. Privately you can have as many sessions as you feel you need/ are willing to pay for with the nhs there will be a maxium. Privatley if you design 6 months later you could do with a couple of more session you could have them with the same counsellor.

NHS- you mean referred via your GP- will give you 6 sessions from a counsellor on their register. Privately means you can choose and have as many sessions as you can afford. I have friends who are counsellors and their clients are a mix of both. It depends how bad your issues are- can it wait 3 months?

I was told 3 month wait for counselling for my rape, it's been 7 months and I'm still waiting (been told they're very busy so haven't fallen out of the system).

I think sooner rather than later do if you can afford to, go private.

Thanks! I think I'm going to do one session privately and see how it goes.
