Breaking up with someone

I've had some great advice on here before so I'm hoping for some wisdom this afternoon.

I've been seeing a guy since about New Year. It's not over serious but we have said that we were exclusive. Over the past sort of 2 weeks I've had that feeling that I just don't want to be with him. In fact, I've been using excuses not to see him and when we have I've been avoiding sex.

I have never broken up with someone before - they have always broken up with me. I have arranged for him to come over after he finishes work tonight but I don't think he has any clue. Should I say something before he gets here?

What on earth do I say? How honest do I be?

I apologise for how childish this post is, he's a lovely guy but I just don't feel the spark and don't want to hurt him.

It's only been two months, so if you are certain I would tell him over the phone. Today, after work.

It's only been a matter of weeks. I would either call him, or wait till he comes over and just let him know it's not working out for you.

"Hi, X. Listen, there's something I need to tell you: this just isn't working for me. I am glad to have met you, but I don't want to date you anymore."

"So you're breaking up with me?"

"Yes. I'm sorry. Goodbye."

I also think it's best done over the phone rather than him wasting his time getting to your place. I like GoatsDoRoam's 'shit sandwich' approach... Classic :)
