Where should new partner sleep?

Just looking for some thoughts really.

Have been with my boyfriend since July last year, we live about 3 hours apart and until this point I have preferred to stay with him as I have a young son and a close knit, over involved family.

We took things slow and now we are talking about him visiting after I get back from holiday in April. He said this morning if my son (3) was home (ie. not a normal day for him to see his dad) then he would sleep on the sofa as it's the proper thing to do.

I think the sentiment behind what he is saying is lovely, but my friend said it's just weird- thoughts?

Do you live alone with your DS or with other family? Has your DS met your boyfriend? These two questions are crucial imo.
