So when you're having a conversation with someone you don't know very well and they touch your leg... Does it mean anything? Asking for a (very happily married) friend.

Not always. Depends where on the leg, with hand or pressing leg against, content & context of conversation, whether the toucher is a 'touchy feely person' - I know someone who constantly touches you when she talks, on your arm, your knee etc just to emphasise a point or punctuate a sentence.

We need more info.
