Birthday Blues!! Sons first birthday

Hi ALL,

We have been confused whether to celebrate or not my sons first .We have already celebrated in my country earlier .But now people and myfrds here are questioning y are you not celebrating .I have couple ofthings in hand I have recently started my new job and its a lot of pressure I ahve to see whether I will perform or not see and give direction to my career for heaven sake and if nothing works out do some courses .So alot on my plate .What should I say ? My parents too are very very nagging they say its not fair .Is it ?

Could you do something little to celebrate - go for a meal out or something that doesn't involve too much effort so the rest of the family can be part of the celebration too?

I don't understand. When is/was his birthday? 'Celebrating' a first birthday usually involves a cursory cake and a few photos. Is that what your parents would like? Would that be so terrible?

You've already celebrated your son's birthday and now people who weren't there are moaning about it? Let them moan, not your problem. You don't want to set the precedent of 2+ Xmas days, birthdays every time some relative/friend can't make it. Print off some photos for people and for future celebrations maybe a birthday skype session with the closest relatives.
