Divorce lawyer recommendations in central London?

MrBusterIPresume · 27/01/2015 12:03

Can anyone recommend a good solicitor in central-ish London who is clued up about emotional abuse and controlling/manipulative spouses?

I suspect H is about to get hostile and I'm in need of good legal advice from someone who has dealt with this before (preferably someone who is used to dealing with ordinary folk rather than ultra-high earners).

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, either here or by pm.

I know some good divorce lawyers but they don't specialise in abuse.

You could call Women's Aid or your local Domestic Violence One Stop Shop, they should be able to recommend solicitors who specialise in abuse.

I don't need an abuse specialist as such, just want to be sure I find someone no-nonsense who won't be taken in by H's reasonable, slightly diffident veneer.

You do need someone who has experience of abusive relationships. There are examples on here of women who have perfectly competent solicitors in other respects but who are naïve about abusive men. It can cause considerable problems, for example, recommending mediation when it should be avoided.

Adorably2014 of 'Decision Made' thread, has a very switched on solicitor - who has dealt with her abusive ex admirably. I think she's based in London so you might PM her.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

No need to apologise, Twinklestein, your advice is helpful - thankyou.

I know them personally and they take on some pretty difficult cases. After that long in the business there is not much they haven't seen. Both Maria and Patricia are very approachable and "no nonsense"/ practical/ best outcome type of people. They tend to be busy but worth a call. (Based in East London but only a stone's throw from the centre)

Good luck - a difficult time ahead of you

Many thanks, engeika, that link looks promising.
