Please can you help me understand what might be going on here.

X and Y are heading for divorce.

X asked Z if he could deposit a substantial amount of money into Z's bank account. Z refused. What is X up to?

Hiding assets of the marriage?

Trying to hide his money so that he doesn't have to split it with Y?

Hiding his money ahead of a costly divorce..............

Agree with all the above.... so who is X and Z? Are you Y?

They are trying to hide assets.

I think, I THINK.....that's illegal. If Z was a decent person they would be prepared to testify that this request was made.

Because let's face it, X probably isn't just going to "give up" because one person said no.

If it's deception intended to result in personal gain - dodging tax, claiming benefits, etc - then it's fraud and its illegal.

If Z is remotely friends with Y, Z needs to tell Y that this has happened. Or really, even if Z is not friends with Y, they should still let them know. Preferably in writing, in an email (for the date stamp) that X does not have access to.
