OKCupid income question

Delphine31 · 07/11/2014 17:42

I'm re-dipping a toe into the murky waters of online dating and am just sorting out an OKCupid profile.

It asks about income. Whether to state income or not is a can of worms I'm not sure I want to open Mumsnet(!), but if I do decide to I would be interested to know how any other OKCupid daters navigated the issue of it being in dollars rather than pounds?

You would think they would give you the option to select currency but it's not apparent if they do.

Did you currency convert your salary or just use the numbers and assume that any bloke with a brain cell will assume it's pounds?

I can't remember what I did but I don't think anyone paid that much attention to it. I assumed any men were probably not telling the truth there and tbh I'm not that interested in what people earned anyway.

I didn't answer it. That's no-one's business until I decide it is.

whatsagoodusername · 07/11/2014 18:12

I wouldn't fill it in, but I would assume if someone did that the numbers were their pound salary, not converted to dollars.

make it up

Delphine31 · 07/11/2014 18:43

Thanks for the responses. I'm still undecided as to whether to fill it in. It shouldn't be important! My only reason for considering putting my income is that my career category is one that is often extremely poorly paid and I don't want blokes thinking that I'll need supporting/not be able to afford to pay my way. (Not saying I earn loads - it's probably an average salary).

It asks on Match but they're quite wide brackets e.g. 35-50k so didn't feel that personal.

Fluffyears · 07/11/2014 19:53

On match I refused mine but think dp had something...as you can see I wasn't bothered.

State in you profile that you work and support yourself.

Its no ones business. Certainly not ok cupids. I don't even know what my best friends earn nor they me. Ok if you plan to set up home with someone or even book a holiday but its a date site. Thats waaaay down the line.
Fwiw I earn a really low salary. But I do get lone parent help and am fully self sufficient. My actual salary would likely send some running for the hills, whether I would like to get to know that type of person is another matter.

I never put salary details online, it is nobodies business but mine.
