So I went to buy DP's birthday card today and it made me realise ...

I couldn't bring myself to buy one with a soppy "you're my everything" "you make me so happy" "you're my soulmate, my everything" verses because it's starting to feel a bit fake. It made me realise I'm not sure I feel for him as I used to. We've been arguing a lot lately, he's done a few things to hurt me, he moans all the time - I'm not sure I love the person he's become (or always was but hid?).

I didn't realise until I had these cards in my hand and realised none of it was true.

My mum got to that stage with her dh. It was blatantly obvious one Christmas when on the mantelpiece was a 'to my wonderful wife I love you' card and beside it a 'happy Christmas best wishes' type one!

Do you have children?

We rarely bother with cards at all , I hate buying cards with soppy things wrote in them, if I do buy a card I buy a blank one and write my own message.

Maybe your just going through a bad patch,maybe you need something to spice things up a little? Or maybe your relationship has come to a end

Have you tried talking to your dp?

I get how you feel. I was like that a few years ago with my dp... I should have had abit more about me then & ended the relationship instead of letting it drag on.

I've never been able to buy those sappy cards, even though I love DH to bits.

The things he's done to hurt you: were they through malice or thoughtlessness? Is it stuff you can possibly work through, or stuff that makes you feel justified in your loss of affection?

I struggle with Fathers Day cards for same reason. They need to start a greeting card range for Mediocre relationships.

In all seriousness now that you have had that realisation do some thinking, can you get away on your own for a day/few hours. Could your feelings be reignighted and how does a life without DP look like in your minds eye?
