Does chemistry have to be mutual?

What about those cases where someone likes someone but it is not reciprocated. How is chemistry defined and it is relative to looks? Thoughts please?

Not sure I believe much in chemistry as a basis for a long lasting relationship.

Not sure that I believe in chemistry either. Lets call it attraction.

If it does exist I don't think it's about looks.

I agree it's not about looks but more often than not I go for handsome.

DH fell for me from the start, I didn't fancy him or see him as anything other than one of my best friends. It took 5 years of us being close friends before he tried it on, if he'd waited for me to he'd still be waiting! After that, I was smitten, it never crossed my mind to see him differently.

From my own experience where "chemistry" was very very strong our relationship is blossoming still after 20 years.
There was a short relationship with someone who was nice, kind but no chemistry.... Like I said, it was a short relationship, no matter how much you want to be with a person, if there is no attraction (chemistry???) I don't believe it will work.

I totally believe in chemistry and "yes" it has to be mutual. It is about the chemical balance in one body reacting to the chemical balance in someone elses - on some animalistic primal level meaning the 2 people would make strong healthy offspring together - it can give you a warm and fuzzy feeling and be quite strong at times, but it's not a good basis for a lasting relationship and totally not based on appearance IMO

I can't see how a relationships would work unless the chemistry, or rather, attraction went both ways.

If it's all one way, than that's an infatuation, not a relationship.
